With this collection he pays his own salary and cares for the church, which he built from the same source of funds. He never dances except on the station platform, and for this church collection. After his dance is over, he carried himself with the dignity befitting the bishop, pastor and janitor of the Straight Gate Church. It is es­timated that he has danced more than thirty thousand times and taken in more than fifteen thousand dollars. " On Sundays he preaches in his church in the morning, and in the afternoon to street crowds, which are often made up mostly of white people. He is seventy-seven years old, and alone in the world since the death of his wife. He founded his church twenty-seven years ago."
